Unpacking The Unconscious

These are the statements related to the Unsconscious for this episode. I suggest making a mental note whether you agree, disagree or unsure. The reason for this is so we have a common language but also, I can address the areas where there is a lack of certainty. By no means to you have to agree to derive benefit from the Seven Fitness Areas…however, the more statements you already agree with the faster you should be able to get through the material. Crossing the River may also be easier as there will be less internal confilct. We don’t want agreement for agreement’s sake. Rather take those areas where you disagree and conduct your own research and formulate your own point of view. I intend to have live Q&A sessions where we can address these. I may also address some of the items in a future podcast depending on how often a particular question

  1. Cognitive biases are have strong hold on us

  2. Priming is real and what happens before you are presented  - with a stimuli, can impact your choice - Before you know it.

  3. You are not your behavior but your behavior makes up your personality

  4. If the brain can change, and associations are always happening, we are being conditioned throughout out lives.  If we are not taking charge of the conditioning than we are leaving it to the environment

  5. Basic advertisement copy says highlight a pain and amplify it. 

  6. If you repeat this over and over you build a strong ready to fire neural pathway

  7. Placebos work sometimes almost as well as the actual drug

  8. The opposite of a placebo, a nocebo also works – basically a pill you believe will make your symptoms worse – its why people fell under spells

  9. Things like anxiety and fear can trigger both ways – anxiety creates shallow breathing but shallow breathing can create anxiety.  Sadness can drive physiology but physiology can drive sadness

  10. By definition, breakthroughs are breaks from your past conventional thinking and therefore it makes sense that before a breakthrough you will feel uneasiness.  I’ll call it cognitive dissonance – this is directly related to rising above the line arises.
